[08] The Heritage Branch of the Department for Environment and Heritage identifies, conserves, protects, promotes and provide policy advice on the built and maritime heritage of South Australia within the context of relevant legislation. They deal mostly with built and maritime heritage, including such places as wells, monuments, mine sites, shipwrecks and cemeteries as well as buildings. Significant geological, archaeological and palaeontological areas can also be protected. The Heritage Branch does not deal significantly with Aboriginal, archival, folklife or natural heritage, nor with built heritage judged of local significance.
