Natural resource management is about striking a balance between caring for our environment and allowing sustainable activities involving work and play. We can all help in ensuring we find the right balance.
The air, land and water and everything that lives in them are part of the environment. Controlling activities that might adversely impact on this ecosystem is a major undertaking.
South Australia’s coastline stretches 4,250 kms and our marine waters extend over more than 60,000 sq kms. Living in this huge, biologically diverse environment are thousands of unique fish and plant species that need protecting.
Choose from more than 300 parks and reserves to experience the raw beauty of South Australia’s natural environment. The State’s unique and ancient landscapes include remote and rugged coastlines, outback mountain ranges and breathtaking desert scenery.
More than 1.5 million people – including 25,000 school students – visit Adelaide’s botanic gardens every year. The gardens offer cultural, recreational, educational and scientific facilities.
Adelaide enjoys arguably the best air quality of any Australian capital city – but we still send more than 20 million tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere each year. Minimising pollution is an ongoing priority.
