Selecting a rainwater tank

A rainwater tank is designed to capture and store rainfall runoff from roofs. In households without a rainwater tank, the water from rainfall simply passes through the stormwater system and flows out to the sea.

There are many types of rainwater tanks to choose from:
  • traditional stand-alone tanks can be installed anywhere on your property
  • modular tanks are designed to be installed against the house to save space.
Further guidance about rainwater tank selection and suppliers in your area can be found by contacting your local council in SA.
