Installations exempt from the water heater requirements

Water heater installations don't need to comply with the residential water heater requirements if they:
  • serve a non-residential premises - e.g. commercial premises, shops, schools, office buildings
  • serve an established home not connected to an SA Water supply (note: you have an SA Water supply if you receive an SA Water bill).
  • serve only a shed, garage or swimming pool
  • provide hot water to only one room and don't supply a shower or bath - e.g. the water heater supplies the kitchen only
  • are shared between multiple units, flats or apartments in a multi-storey apartment building (class 2 building)
  • are repairs to an existing water heater or are a replacement water heater under warranty.
