What software can be used in South Australia
Second generation software (FirstRate5, AccuRate and BERSPro) that meets the Australian Building Codes Board’s protocol for house energy rating software is the only software that will be accepted for determining the star rating of a domestic dwelling. Suitable software currently includes:

Role of the House Energy Rating Assessor
A registered House Energy Rating Assessor can issue certified house energy ratings that will be accepted by councils and private certifiers. To do this they must be completely independent of the project and that means adhering to a code of practice (PDF 101KB).

Information to provide to council or the relevant authority
When submitting a rating as part of the development application, the star rating certificate must be provided along with the stamped project plans. Both must be certified with the assessor registration number clearly visible on the certificate. For more information please refer to the code of practice (PDF 101KB).

How to register to become a house energy rating assessor
Undertake training in the appropriate software
You must undertake training in software that meets the Australian Building Code Board's protocol for house energy rating software.
Nationally registered training authorities offer training in the appropriate software.
Submit an application
Applications to be listed on the register of house energy rating assessors must include:
- a completed application form (PDF 118KB)
- a certificate or other written evidence of training in the appropriate software with the name of the software program you trained in
- a signed code of practice (PDF 101KB) indicating agreement to abide by its provisions
- the application fee.
