Seniors

There are numerous recreation and community activities available locally for seniors. Information about programs in your area can be obtained by contacting your local council. Extensive information on leisure, travel and lifestyle can be found on the Seniors Information Service website.

The Every Generation Festival

During October, events and activities are held for South Australians of all ages to come together and celebrate the achievements of older people. Information on the Every Generation Festival can be found on the Council on the Ageing Seniors Voice website.

Social and community

• Council on the Ageing provide a range of resources to get you involved in the community, including networking clubs, the peer education resource centre and day trips. 
• Information on travel, hobbies and seniors organisations can be found on the seniors.gov.au website.
• Information on travelling and hobbies and activities can be found on the About Seniors website. 
• If you live in the southern metro area, Masonic Homes’ Circle of Friends can help you develop and strengthen your own personal circle of friends . 
• A range of social, educational and recreational activities for those in community housing is provided through Community and Neighbourhood Houses (CANH) and Centres Association Inc.  
• The National Public Toilet Map shows the location of more than 14,000 public toilets across Australia. Details of toilet facilities can also be found along major travel routes and for shorter journeys as well.
• The International Day of Older Persons is celebrated on 1 October every year to recognise the contributions of older people worldwide.

Physical

• Tips for older people to become more physically active can be found on the Be Active website.
• The Centre for Physical Activity in Ageing has a number of health and rehabilitation programs.
• Sporting competitions are held by the Port Pirie Masters Games,  Alice Springs Masters Games and Pan Pacific Masters Games.

Grants for Seniors and Positive Ageing Development Grants are allocated every year to help older people to be involved in their community and continue participating in activities of their choice.
