Support for children with disability

Young children with disability can benefit from getting help with their behaviour and development such as:
  • speech pathology: for speech, language, eating and drinking skills
  • physiotherapy: for motor skills such as balance, sitting, crawling, and walking
  • occupational therapy: for play and self-help skills such as dressing, and toileting
  • support from a social worker or early childhood worker: for information, counselling and help to find and use other support services

How to get help

You'll need evidence that your child has disability. Get help to organise this by:

  • contacting your family doctor, who can arrange a referral to a specialist
  • contacting your local community health service - to find one in your area, use the Human Services Finder
  • if you think your child might have autism or Asperger syndrome, see Autism or Asperger syndrome.
